The support post has degraded so it is the consistency of balsa wood. It was removed easily by poking it with a screwdriver!

Looking from the outside. The support beam holding up the deck and stairs need to be replaced too.

This is how it was discovered. The Hardyboard had broken off revealing that the beam had dropped 3 inches.
